Wooden magnet which features the design of a 1912 handbill announcing a suffragette demonstration to be held on 24 November in the Bow Palace, Bow Road. Speakers included Emmeline Pankhurst and George Lansbury, the Labour Party MP for Bow and Bromley, who was a staunch supporter of women's suffrage. The bill is printed in the purple, white and green colours of the Women's Social and Political Union.
The Suffragette organisation, the Women's Social and Political Union was founded by Emmeline Pankhurst and her daughters in 1903. Until the outbreak of war in 1914 the WSPU campaigned to 'wake up the nation' to the cause of women's suffrage to win 'votes for women'.
