Fabric produced in collaboration between IWM and Liberty for the Creativity in Conflict & Confinement collection
IWM and Liberty have partnered to explore stories of individuals’ acts of creativity and craft during experiences of conflict creating three new meaningful designs.
The Stitch and Community pattern is representative of growth, connection and transition with a Tree of Life-style design. Created from a collection of archival Liberty artworks dating to 1915, botanical embroidery studies are arranged to create a trompe-l’oeil (trick of the eye) effect.
These artworks are layered with handwritten letters and motifs stitched into a sheet by prisoners of war, from the IWM collection.
